Markus Kirchberg studied towards a Master of Sciences in Computer Science degree at the Clausthal University of Technology, Germany from October 1995 to June 2000. Afterwards, he joined the Department of Information Systems at Massey University, New Zealand as an Assistant Lecturer. From August 2001 until December 2007, Markus has been a full-time Lecturer responsible for undergraduate and postgraduate courses on database systems, distributed systems and Web-based systems. He completed his Ph.D. in Information Systems in July 2007. Since January 2008, Markus works as a Research Fellow at the Institute for Infocomm Research, A*STAR in Singapore. His major research interests include (Privacy-aware) Data and Record Management, Distributed Systems, Service-oriented Computing, and Transaction Processing.
Markus has publications in journals such as Data & Knowledge Engineering, Journal of Universal Computer Science and LNCS Journal on Data Semantics; and has presented his research at conferences such as Advances in Databases and Information Systems (ADBIS), Australasian Database Conference (ADC), Conceptual Modeling (ER), Data Engineering (ICDE), Database and Expert System Applications (DEXA), and Web Information Systems Engineering (WISE).
Presently, Markus is the General Chair of the 7th Int'l Mobility Conference, PC Chair of the Defence Science Research 2011 Conference and Expo, PC Co-chair of the 1st Int'l Workshop on Conceptual Modelling of Services (CMS 2010 @ ER 2010), Guest Editor for special issues of the IEEE Transactions on Services Computing (IEEE TSC) on "Enforcement and Management in Services Computing", the Journal of Universal Computer Science (J.UCS) on "Evolving Theories of Conceptual Modelling", and the Int'l Journal of Information Systems in the Service Sector (IJISSS) on "Advanced Research Topics in Services Computing", Editorial Board Member of the Int'l Journal of Information Systems in the Service Sector (IJISSS) and Int'l Journal On Advances in Software, and he serves as PC Member for DASFAA 2011, DEXA 2010, WISE 2010, AINA 2011, and ICSEA 2010.
